Learning how to work on lip sync, pushing my art style a little more different then the usual and pulling off an animation that was twice as more difficult then I ever did was very challenging, especially working alone. It may be tough but it was quite the experience!
This may be my last animation project on my 2nd year degree, but it won't be the last.
The movement in this test were too fast and needs to be timed properly.
Second test :
The movement in this test still needs to be reworked. It may need to rise it's arms a little more higher.
Third test :
In the third test, when the arms fold the body should go a little more lower to make the weight of the arms landing more pressured.
Fourth test :
\On the fourth test, the body bent more when the arms landed seeming as if there was more weight into it, however, the arms may need more improvements when it folds together.
On the first test, the foot was too far apart and it's foot needs to be in proper shape. The timing also needs to be reworked.
Second test :
On the second test, I reworked on the foot and timing of the animation. I have also tested a second version of this to test out the timing for the foot.
2nd test : version 1
2nd test : version 2
On the second test, the foot landing in the keys are on ones instead of twos.
Third test :
On the third test, I reworked the movements again, the head shape needs to be reworked as it isn't exactly round like the original Mickey Mouse head shape. The body also needs to lean more forward in the breakdowns and in-betweens.
There are also two version of the 3rd test to test out the timing of the foot.
Version 1
Version 2
Fourth test :
On the fourth test, the character's body leans more forward, but the head may still need more improvements.
On the first test, the movement was far too off from the actual sneaking movement. The character's movements were overly exaggerated, and the movement needs more frames for the weight.
Second test :
On the second test, I reworked on keys and breakdowns. The head moved in a straight line as the character lean forward. Instead, it needs a curved movement on the head rather then a straight line as the character lean forward each time.
Third test :
On the third test, the movements have been reworked and in-betweens were applied along with a background provided by the teacher.
During the Easter holiday I worked on in-betweens while applying the feed backs given.
As I work on planning the lip sync, I realize that it is best to work on the movements and form of the characters in the in-between stage before going into lip sync.
Compiled full in-between
After, I planned the lip sync by using after effects, listening and memorizing the waveform of the audio.
After the pre-production presentation, I immediately worked on what needs more improvements according to the feed backs given.
Although it was intended that the man character design was meant to have a contrasting look then the woman character, he does not seem quite fitting completely. Instead of changing his entire design, I reworked on his face design.
I tried working on sketches to test out how his eyes and face shape would be like
I tried applying what I've sketched , giving the man character a slightly sharper, large nose, adding colors in the eyes and slightly reshaped his face shape.
For the interior design, there is still some ideas needed in the room to feel more life to it. With the feed backs given, I realize that after watching some of the shots in the rough animatic, my mistake is not noticing the use of what objects are needed and not needed for the background. Reason why is because some of the shots in the rough animatic feels lifeless as there are no objects seen behind the character.
I've decided to work on sketching on different camera view and changing some designs.
After, I went on to reworking the finalized background design.
These are the backgrounds for the animation.
For the rough animatic, I reworked on certain shots because the objects such as the cookies were not very well shown for the audience to catch in that the man was baking.
After having a feed back sessions with the teachers, I worked on the characters and the rough animatic.

WEEK 5 On week 5, I worked on keys and breakdowns for the shot, test and taking video references.
Shot 10 test - 001
Keys & Breakdowns
Shot 10 - 001
Shot 20
Shot 30 - 001
Shot 40 - 001
Compiled video of all 4 shots with audio.
After receiving feed backs on the shots, I immedietely went straight to reworking on them while finishing the last shot.
Shot 10 - 002
Shot 30 - 002
Shot 40 - 002
Shot 50
Compiled shot - 002 with audio.
Shot 10 film reference - 002
On the last day of the week before Easter holiday, another feed back session takes place, shot 10 will need more test and references in order to have the consistency and weight of the movement.
In the 2nd term for SOVIS, I've team up with Mariana to work on a new group project in this unit. The story we've chosen would be 'The Lost Mariner'.
The story is about a man name Jimmie, 49 years old, he was a mariner in his old time. He suffers from a certain type of mental illness such as confusion, disorientated, demented and helpless.
Finalized film:
Animation by Mariana Noronha and myself.
Song : 'Hurt' by Johnny Cash
Contribution Reel :
A video of shots that I worked on.
During pre-production research and work, I had a weekly discussion with Mariana on our ideas. We discussed what our character would look like and how do we want our film to work. Transition and effects were a very difficult task that we took the time to plan through but as we go, we work on our part of ideas.

Old Jimmy Sketches :
For the doctor's office, I work on 1960s office.
Room design and color test :
For the playground, I took the reference from the streets of new york.
Backyard design and color test :
Sky coloring test :
As for the submarine, I took reference out of real life submarines that exist in the 1940s (which is the time when young Jimmy was still a mariner) taking some design ideas from submarines that are both still exist and some that had sunken for years.
Submarine sketches and test :
After effect test :
As I planned on how to animate some of the shots that had a slightly difficult transition, I worked on keys & breakdowns for shot 50 and shot 60.
After, Mariana and I discussed and choose which part do we take. I then choose the first 9 shots, worked on rough animatics and put it together with Mariana's.
Rough Animatic :
Test 001
Test 002
Test 003
The last video was edited and reworked by Mariana.
After, I worked on some test and animation such as water animations, splashes of the water and cinematic texture to fit the 1940s style cinematic screen, it is to be used for shots that include Jimmy remembering his past.
